DC vs CSK IPL 2021: Preview, Lineups, Predictions & Dream 11 Picks

The Roars versus the Whistles! The Student versus the Master! The narrative around this match couldn’t have been spiced up any further as Rishabh Pant’s Delhi Capitals take on MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings. Both DC and CSK have been on the losing side in IPL 2020 & IPL 2019 finals respectively. While the Capitals have enhanced their squad in the Auction, the Super Kings have made some excellent additions themselves. Let’s have a look at how this match could potentially pan out!

Rishabh Pant takes over the captaincy from an injured Shreyas Iyer for the Delhi Capitals. The Indian wicket-keeper batsman has seen a massive development in his game and a chance to lead an IPL franchise might just take it to the next level. As for the Capitals, Anrich Nortje and Kagiso Rabada will be missing out on this game due to the quarantine protocols. With Tom Curran and Chris Woakes waiting in the ranks, it might not be much of a headache for last season’s finalists.

Chennai Super Kings will be raring to go after a poor IPL 2020. A return to India helps the Chennai setup massively as they having the bowling and the batting prowess to tackle these conditions. Although they are not playing in Chennai, their opening game in Mumbai is one of those venues where they have had a good track record in the past. With Sam Curran in superb form, additions like Moeen Ali, K Gowtham, and Jason Behrendorff, the Super Kings could be a great team. Lungi Ngidi will also be under quarantine which would allow CSK to play an extra foreign spinner.

Chennai Super Kings have a massive edge against Delhi Capitals in this fixture having won 15 matches out of the 23 matches they have faced off. IPL 2020 though belonged to the Capitals who did the double over the Super Kings with Prithvi Shaw being the star man in one match and Shikhar Dhawan in the other one.

Delhi Capitals (DC): Prithvi Shaw, Shikhar Dhawan, Ajinkya Rahane, Rishabh Pant (C), Marcus Stoinis, Shimron Hetmyer, Ravichandran Ashwin, Chris Woakes, Tom Curran, Amit Mishra, Umesh Yadav.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK): Faf du Plessis, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Suresh Raina, Ambati Rayudu, MS Dhoni (C), Moeen Ali, Ravindra Jadeja, Mitchell Santner, Sam Curran, Shardul Thakur, Deepak Chahar.

Rishabh Pant: The Capitals skipper has been in prolific form since the Tour of Australia. He has been a key player for India in both the red-ball and the white-ball formats. Pant had a less impressive IPL 2020 scoring only 343 runs at a strike rate of 114 but he did score a fantastic half-century in the final. He has an IPL career strike rate of 151 and an average of 35 that makes him a huge asset. With the absence of Iyer, the Capitals will be depending massively on big runs from Rishabh Pant at the Wankhede against the Super Kings. He should be a must-have in your fantasy teams.

Faf du Plessis: The South African veteran was one of the shining lights in CSK’s dark campaign last season. He scored 449 runs in IPL 2020 at a strike rate of 140 and an average of 40. His performance at the top of the order will be key for the Super Kings at the Wankhede in their opening match as he has the ability to set the tempo for the innings and can play the longer anchor role as well with the same effectiveness. Faf scored a 43 and a 58 against the Capitals last season and CSK will be hoping for more of the same.

Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals will both be happy with the venue they are at considering their team combinations. Toss will be important at the Wankhede Stadium as dew plays a massive role in the second half of the match. The team chasing will have an advantage of the dew problems for the opposition and the short boundaries at the Wankhede. Also, the pace and bounce on the wicket should help the bowling styles of both teams. CSK has an excellent record at the venue but DC looks like a more settled unit as it stands. Last season’s finalists will be having a slight advantage but the Super Kings might be able to trump against the odds.
