SRH vs KKR IPL 2021: Preview, Lineups, Predictions & Dream 11 Picks

Sunrisers Hyderabad starts the tournament as one of the favorites to win it while Kolkata Knight Riders start as an underdog. While KKR had a low-key IPL 2020, Eoin Morgan’s KKR will want to be “Taiyaar” this season. The addition of Shakib Al Hasan certainly makes it a curious setup. Sunrisers will have the question mark over the selection of one of the trio – Williamson, Roy, and Bairstow. The return of Bhuvneshwar will be key for SRH as they look to kick off in style. We preview the match with possible lineups, top fantasy recommendations, and our predictions!

The season brings with it massive expectations for the Orange Army. With the signing of Kedar Jadhav, Suchith, and Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Hyderabad managed to further improve the squad in the IPL Auctions 2021. They also announced the signing of Jason Roy as a replacement for Mitchell Marsh who pulled out of IPL 2021 due to issues with the Bio-bubble.

Roy will be unavailable for the first game while he faces his quarantine period. The foreign players’ combination will be quite a conundrum for them, but they have a squad for all conditions. Chennai would be a venue where two of the three Afghans could possibly make the playing XI. Williamson is another player who would benefit the Sunrisers at Chennai while David Warner’s form at the top will be key. The return to action and form of Bhuvneshwar will be key for Sunrisers.

Kolkata Knight Riders will be looking with keen interest on the performances of Nitish Rana and Shubman Gill up top. They will need Eoin Morgan and Dinesh Karthik to accelerate in the Chennai conditions while Narine could feature with the pitch in mind. Varun Chakravarthy will be an X-factor player for the Knight Riders against the likes of Warner and Williamson who have the ability to take the game away.

The Knight Riders did the double over the Sunrisers last season in the UAE. While they won comfortably in the first match, the second one went to a super over where Lockie Ferguson pulled off a stunning performance with the ball conceding two runs only. KKR has won 12 out of the 19 head-to-head fixtures against SRH.

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH): David Warner (C), Wriddhiman Saha, Kane Williamson, Manish Pandey, Kedar Jadhav, Abdul Samad, Mohammad Nabi, Rashid Khan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, T Natarajan, Sandeep Sharma.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR): Shubman Gill, Venkatesh Iyer, Nitish Rana, Eoin Morgan (C), Dinesh Karthik, Andre Russell, Shakib Al Hasan, Pat Cummins, Harbhajan Singh, Prasidh Krishna, Varun Chakravarthy.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar: The return of Bhuvneshwar Kumar will be key for the Sunrisers in this edition of the IPL. His death bowling and powerplay expertise make him a key wicket-taker as well as an economical bowler. Bhuvi was in fantastic form in the limited-overs leg against England in Pune and Ahmedabad and he will have a massive influence in shifting the game towards SRH. His economy rate has been around 7 r.p.o in the last 3 seasons and he is handy with the bat as well. He will be a must-have in your fantasy teams.

Shubman Gill: The Indian opening batsman was the top run-getter for the Knight Riders in IPL 2020. He scored 440 runs in the last edition at an average of about 34 runs per game. He has the ability to anchor the innings and can also accelerate during the power play as well as the middle overs. Gill recently impressed with the red-ball in Australia and will be looking to continue with his good form in the opening game of IPL 2021. His role will be key to KKR success against SRH with Rashid & Nabi in the opposition lineup at Chennai.

The conditions in Chennai are very much in favor of the Sunrisers but the Knight Riders do have the spin attack which with Shakib, Harbhajan and Chakravarthy can trouble their opponents. SRH has a better-suited batting attack with Warner, Saha, Pandey, and Williamson along with Jadhav being good players of spin along with the all-round abilities of the Afghan duo. The toss will once again play a crucial role in the game with chasing being slightly easier of the Chennai wicket. Having said that the result of the toss will affect the Knight Riders more than the Sunrisers. The favorites will be SRH despite the results last season but can KKR break the odds?
