Sergio Kun Aguero is the definition of a prolific striker and a player who has achieved beyond leaps and bounds for Manchester City. Since his move from Atletico Madrid to the Citizens in 2011, Aguero has done the unthinkable on so many different key occasions for the club that his name will always be sung at the Etihad Stadium with the hero’s charm that he deserves.

Manchester City’s all-time top goalscorer recently called it a farewell to his time in the Premier League after 10 years while winning 5 titles and still a potential Champions League trophy which could be added to his collection from a glorious period during the rising of the blue moon in Manchester. With a move to Barcelona in the summer almost done and dusted, the Argentine can look forward to a new challenging chapter in his career.

Pep Guardiola did talk about how massive a loss Kun Aguero will be to Manchester City. The real question is who do they replace him within the summer transfer window. A player with his finishing, movement, work rate, flair, imagination, and ability to provide clutch moments is indeed a rare commodity even with the bank balance of Manchester City.

We look here at some potential options that Pep Guardiola might have to sign an Aguero replacement ahead of a massive summer for his club to keep on the dominance in Europe.

1. Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur

The ideal replacement for Sergio Aguero in the summer could be the Spurs striker & England captain, Harry Kane. After another underwhelming season for Spurs, Harry Kane looked visibly dejected by the consistent failure of his team to compete for trophies. Kane scored 23 goals and made 14 assists in the Premier League this season with his overall season tally of goals being 33. The star Englishman already has 221 goals for Tottenham and is still only 27 years old.

Harry Kane recently talked about his frustrations at Tottenham after a season that started very well but ended up with the team only after to qualify for the UEFA Conference League next season which is a tier 3 European Competition. In an interview with Harry Kane gave to Sky Sports, Harry Kane talked about his desires to lift the Champions League in his prime years and the fact that he wishes to leave the club this summer considering the club gets a good transfer fee for him.

As for Pep Guardiola, Harry Kane would be a dream signing. Kane is a wonderful creator as well as a scorer of goals. On multiple occasions this season, Kane has played like an auxiliary striker to help his team in offensive transitions, and his work rate and tenacity in the game in second to none. While he does all the dirty work with ease, his finishing is an art in itself to praise along with his match awareness to make the right pass if it comes to that. Surely, Pep Guardiola is already planning a dream team with Harry Kane in his team for next season.

Spurs may ask for a fee in excess of 120 million pounds for Harry Kane in the summer but after winning the Premier League and the potential through the Champions League final, the fact that the owner is always ready to splash the cash for stars at the club is always a huge benefit for the Citizens. If the deal does go through, Harry Kane might turn out to be an all-time record transfer in Premier League history.

2. Erling Braut Haaland from Borussia Dortmund.

Erling Haaland has been the talk of the town when it comes to European football over the last couple of years. His seamless transition to the Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund after a headline start at RB Salsburg has confirmed to the fans around the globe that Haaland could potentially be one of the sensations in football over the next decade or so. At only the tender age of 20, Erling Haaland has become the main man for Borussia Dortmund in the matter of a season and a half and could be a potential target for Manchester City in the coming seasons.

Haaland scored 41 goals in 41 matches in all competitions over the course of the 2020/21 season for Dortmund while being the talisman in ensuring that the club qualified for the Champions League in the upcoming season. His pace, movement, control with the pace, work rate, and finishing makes him one of the most sought-after strikers in the game currently.

Borussia Dortmund has taken a stance and their CEO has suggested that Erling Haaland is not for sale in the upcoming summer transfer window. But after the release clause which was into his Dortmund contract kicks into application in 2022, Erling Haaland could be well on his way away from Dortmund with clubs like Real Madrid and Barcelona have already shown interest in signing him.

Manchester City could be another appealing destination for Erling Haaland and while this transfer might potentially happen only next season, at 60 million euros in the current market a player like Haaland is a bargain. It further also solves Pep Guardiola and Manchester City’s striker conundrum for at least a decade if he can keep going in the same vein. Maybe, even potentially challenge Aguero and his City record.

3. Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munchen

Robert Lewandowski is probably the most improbable of the options to replace Kun Aguero at Manchester City. Having said that, there is always a possibility that working with Pep Guardiola once again could be a tempting proposition for the player. The Premier League could be a wonderful destination for the Polish star to try to leave his marks upon and while his Bayern contract runs down in the next two years, an appropriate price tag could even tempt Bayern Munich into thinking about the offer on the table.

Lewandowski is already the highest-ever goalscoring foreign player in the German top-flight and has scored 48 goals in all competitions this season. Bayern Munich will be extremely reluctant to put any price tag on the player who has scored 294 goals for the club in all competitions over the last 7 years. At the age of 32, he may not qualify as an ideal replacement in terms of the long-term future for the club, but can definitely be an option in the immediate future under Pep Guardiola. Among all the three options who could potentially replace a player like Aguero, the Bayern striker is definitely the least favorite to join Manchester City.

While an interesting summer potentially awaits Manchester City as we all wait to see what they have in store for all of us in the transfer window. Pep Guardiola is a manager who has shown over the last couple of seasons that he is comfortable with a false 9 in his team and may not look to sign an expensive player considering they already have Gabriel Jesus in their ranks if need be. While we look forward to this, Many congratulations to Sergio Aguero on a fantastic Manchester City career, a legend of the highest class!
